Turn a Signal Into a Content Brief
Move from a scored Reaction or qualified signal to a structured brief CntX can generate and calendar against.
Overview
Signals become useful when they produce editorial artifacts—not Slack threads lost after a week. CntX supports several promotion paths depending on source:
- Reactions inbox — primary path for Media Watch, Social Listening (LinkedIn/Reddit), and promoted Voice of Field items. Row actions include Create brief (immediate) or queue for the next brief generation batch on VoF.
- Voice of Field list — Create brief on a specific email; optional Generate next to prioritize an email in the next auto-brief batch for a chosen strategy.
- Social Listening audit findings — some patterns offer Create brief or Create action from audit-derived social insights.
- Audit catalog findings — mark approved for brief or manually create a brief aligned with the finding’s pillar and keyword gap.
The created brief inherits workspace context (pillars, audience, products) and can carry source metadata so writers know why now—competitor claim, field objection, trending query, or media narrative.
When to use
Promote a signal to a brief when:
- Reaction score is high or field email is validated as strategically fit—not every feed row deserves a brief.
- The topic maps to an existing pillar and does not cannibalize a recent calendar item on the same primary keyword.
- You have capacity in the current planning period or can swap a lower-priority slot.
- Timeliness matters (news response, LinkedIn thread, product launch counter)—delay means lost relevance.
Do not brief everything—dismiss noise and keyword-only hits in Reactions first.
Before you start
- Signal visible in Reactions, Voice of Field, or an audit/social finding with a create action.
- Content strategy active with pillars, channels, and audiences defined.
- Check calendar and content library for duplicate or competing topics on the same keyword.
- Optional: reviewer assigned if your process requires approval before generation.
Steps
- Open the signal in its source view:
– Insights → Reactions for scored opportunities. – Insights → Voice of Field for field emails. – Social Listening audit tab or finding card when available.
- Read Why this score? or opportunity explanation—confirm strategic fit and reaction angle.
- Click Create brief (or Create action → brief path when offered).
- If prompted, pick the target content strategy or calendar period for VoF queue actions.
- CntX creates or opens a content item with brief fields pre-filled where inference allows: topic, angle, audience hints, source link, internal notes referencing the signal.
- Edit the brief: tighten primary keyword, hook, problem/promise, key messages, and suggested CTA to match the signal—not generic boilerplate.
- Set channel, destination, and scheduled date if placing on calendar.
- Move editorial status to In review or Approved per your workflow.
- Generate content from the brief when approved; optimize before CMS publish.
- Back in Reactions, mark the suggestion In progress or Done so the inbox reflects closure.
Expected result
- A new or updated content item with traceable origin from the signal.
- Brief internal notes capture source URL, email subject, or finding ID for audit trail.
- Calendar shows the item in the chosen period with correct channel/destination.
- Reaction suggestion status updated so the team does not double-brief the same event.
- Generated content reflects the reaction angle—counter-narrative, FAQ answer, BOFU proof, or thought leadership response as appropriate.
Tips
- Prefer Create brief over manual blank items when starting from Reactions—metadata transfer saves time.
- For VoF, Create brief is immediate; Generate next batches priority for strategy-wide auto-brief runs—pick one path to avoid duplicates.
- Cross-check primary keyword against audit Top keywords and GSC if the URL family already exists.
- Low-score signals: dismiss in Reactions instead of briefing—protects calendar capacity.
- Social threads age quickly; pair brief creation with a near-term publish slot or derivative social post on LinkedIn if that is the source network.
- After publish, reconcile URL and revisit Performance Learning Loop to see if the reactive topic earns queries.
Next step
Approve the brief and generate content, or slot it on the calendar if generation waits for capacity. Mark the Reaction Done and monitor Performance after publish to validate the signal was worth the editorial cost.
