Cancel or Delete Your Account

End a subscription responsibly, understand data impact, and remove users or companies without trapping delegated clients or teammates.

Overview

Canceling CntX access involves two distinct actions:

  1. Cancel subscription — stops future Stripe charges; handled in the Stripe Customer Portal.
  2. Delete users or companies — removes platform access and may delete tenant data; handled inside CntX by administrators.

These are not interchangeable. Canceling billing without removing users leaves accounts in a limited state. Deleting a user does not automatically cancel their individual Plus / Pro subscription if they are the Stripe customer.

When to use

  • You no longer need CntX after trial or contract end.
  • A teammate left and should lose access immediately.
  • An agency winds down an owned client company (not delegated).
  • You must comply with data retention or offboarding policies.

Before you start

  • Identify who owns Stripe billing (individual user on Plus/Pro vs company admin on Business/Agency).
  • Export anything you need from Content, Context, and audit reports before deletion.
  • For Agency accounts: never delete delegated client companies—revoke delegation instead.
  • Transfer ADMIN to another user before deleting yourself.

Steps

1. Cancel the Stripe subscription

  1. Sign in as the billing owner (ADMIN for Business/Agency; account holder for Plus/Pro).
  2. Open Settings → Billing.
  3. Click Customer Portal / Manage subscription.
  4. In Stripe, choose Cancel subscription (typically effective at period end unless immediate cancel is offered).

Confirm whether cancellation is end-of-period or immediate—this determines last day of access.

2. Remove individual users (Business)

  1. Open Settings → Users.
  2. Delete departing users to free seats and revoke workspace access.
  3. Confirm permanent loss of access in the modal.

Deleting users does not refund unused subscription time—adjust seats in Stripe if needed.

3. Delete your own login

You cannot delete your own account from the user list (security rule). Ask another ADMIN to remove you, or contact support if you are the last admin.

4. Delete an owned agency client company

Only for Owned accounts you created (max five per agency):

  1. Open `/agency`.
  2. Select the owned client card.
  3. Choose Delete and confirm irreversible deletion.

Do not use this flow for Delegated clients—use Revoke in Manage Delegated Companies.

5. Offboard delegated relationships

If you are the agency:

  1. Revoke delegation from `/agency`.
  2. Cancel only your Agency subscription if you no longer manage any clients.

If you are the client:

  1. Revoke under Settings → Agency-delegated management.
  2. Cancel or continue your Business subscription independently.

6. After cancellation

  • Users may see pricing redirects on login when no active subscription remains.
  • Data may remain stored for a retention window per contract and legal requirements—cancellation is not always instant deletion of all records.
  • Integrations (WordPress tokens, OAuth) should be revoked on the CMS side separately.

Expected result

  • Stripe shows subscription canceled; no further invoices (unless charges already finalized).
  • Removed users cannot sign in to company workspaces.
  • Delegated clients remain intact when agencies revoke access properly.
  • Owned client companies deleted from agency hub disappear with their workspaces and content.

Tips

  • Cancel Stripe before deleting the last admin if you need an orderly export window.
  • Document CMS disconnect steps—CntX cannot unpublish remote WordPress posts automatically on account deletion.
  • Keep email-only contributors in mind—they lose routing when workspace email is decommissioned.
  • For security-driven termination, also email support@cntx.app with context after portal cancellation.
