Interpret Audit Findings and Top Keywords

Turn audit patterns and DataForSEO-style keyword metrics into editorial decisions—not vanity SEO spreadsheets.

Overview

After a content audit completes, CntX presents two complementary views:

Audit findings — structured patterns detected across your catalog: pillar gaps, product or persona gaps, funnel imbalance, intent mismatch, thin coverage, quick wins, and SEO-oriented opportunities. Each finding carries a priority band, impact severity, status (open, in review, approved for brief, dismissed, done), and links to impacted pages when available. Findings may reference estimated SEO data badges when metrics are model- or API-derived.

Top keywords — a ranked sample of keywords extracted from audited content, enriched with search volume, keyword difficulty, and competition where the keyword metrics pipeline succeeded. Tables show keyword relevance scores per article and footnotes when metrics cover only a subset of keywords (quota, cache, or niche terms with sparse API data).

Together, findings answer what is wrong structurally; top keywords answer where demand exists for topics you touch or miss.

When to use

Use this guide when:

  • An audit run shows Succeeded or Partial succeeded and you need to prioritize fixes.
  • Stakeholders ask which audit items matter first.
  • You see Top keywords with volume/difficulty columns and want to know how to act on them.
  • You plan calendar briefs and want evidence from catalog analytics—not only intuition.
  • Findings prompt you to Connect GSC for deeper SEO recommendations.

Before you start

  • A completed audit in the current workspace (see Run a Content Audit).
  • Content strategy with pillars and funnel targets—otherwise gaps lack a reference frame.
  • Optional: Google Search Console connected to cross-check which keywords already earn impressions on live URLs.
  • Shared rule for finding statuses so marketing and SEO do not duplicate work on dismissed items.

Steps

  1. Open Content → Audit and select the latest successful run.
  2. Scroll to Audit findings. Read the subtitle: patterns from the latest snapshot.
  3. Filter findings:

All vs To review for untouched items. – Status filters as your team adopts them (acknowledged, approved for brief, dismissed).

  1. For each high-priority finding (P0/P1 or High impact):

– Read title and description. – Click View impacted pages to see catalog URLs involved. – Note badges: SEO, Quick win, Audit finding, estimated SEO data sources.

  1. Decide disposition: acknowledge, dismiss noise, mark approved for brief, or launch optimization actions when offered.
  2. Open Top keywords chart and table below the summary analytics.
  3. Sort and scan keywords with complete metrics (volume, difficulty, competition). Ignore blank metric cells when footnotes indicate partial enrichment.
  4. Cross-reference high-volume or low-difficulty keywords against:

– Existing calendar briefs (avoid duplicates). – Pillar map (does the keyword fit a pillar you under-serve?). – GSC top queries on related live URLs if connected.

  1. Promote winners into planning:

– Create or edit a content brief with primary keyword set. – Queue an Action from a finding when the UI offers it. – Feed Signals workflow if the same theme appears in Media Watch or social listening.

  1. Archive or mark done on findings once addressed so the list stays actionable.

Expected result

  • You have a short, prioritized backlog of catalog fixes—not an unfiltered dump of every pattern.
  • Keyword opportunities tie to pillars, funnel stage, and audience—not isolated search volume.
  • Quick wins and SEO findings are separated from structural gaps (persona, product, pillar).
  • Partial keyword metrics are interpreted with footnotes—not treated as missing product bugs.
  • GSC connection is on your roadmap when findings explicitly recommend it.

Tips

  • High volume + high difficulty may still be strategic—match to BOFU or flagship pillar bets, not only quick wins.
  • Zero competition in API data often means sparse Google Ads data, not literally no competitors.
  • Findings use catalog and crawl signals; GSC reflects live search behavior—use both before rewriting URLs.
  • Dismiss duplicate findings that restate the same thin pillar gap under different labels.
  • Export Excel for keyword tables when sharing with SEO advisors; keep finding workflow inside CntX for status tracking.
  • If every keyword shows partial metrics, verify workspace country/language and DataForSEO market settings, then re-run audit export.

Next step

Pick one High impact finding and one Top keyword gap that align with the same pillar. Create a content brief with the keyword as primary focus, or convert a matching Reaction from Insights if social or media signals echo the same theme.
