Understand Signals and Reactions
Signals are qualified market and field inputs; Reactions are scored opportunities that deserve a fast editorial response.
Overview
CntX Insights collects signals from four macro sources—not a generic “all social” firehose:
| Source | What it captures | Typical signal |
|---|---|---|
| Voice of Field | Emails to workspace addresses, field and customer intelligence | Sales objection, GTM note, customer quote |
| Media Watch | Monitored publications, RSS, and news-style sources | Competitor launch, industry narrative shift |
| Social Listening | LinkedIn and Reddit watches you configure | Trending post, keyword mention, community thread |
| Content audit | Catalog analytics | Pillar gap, keyword white space (feeds planning more than Reactions inbox) |
Each incoming item is scored for relevance (does it match your pillars, products, audiences?) and reaction potential (is there a timely angle worth responding to?). High-scoring social and media items can auto-create Reaction suggestions in the Reactions inbox (Insights → Reactions, labeled “Reaction opportunities” in the UI).
Signals are the raw or qualified observations. Reactions are the curated subset scored high enough to act on—competitor claims to counter, threads to join with owned content, field emails that should become briefs. Not every signal becomes a Reaction; low scores, duplicates, keyword-only matches, or stale items are filtered out.
When to use
Use this mental model when you:
- Set up listening for the first time and wonder which Insight tab to open.
- See items in Social Listening but not in Reactions—and need to know why.
- Plan editorial capacity for “newsjacking” or rapid response content.
- Connect audit findings, VoF emails, and LinkedIn trends into one prioritization habit.
Before you start
- Workspace context populated (pillars, products, competitors, brand keywords)—scoring uses this lexicon.
- At least one listening source configured (VoF email forwarding, Media Watch source, or LinkedIn/Reddit watch).
- Team agreement on who owns the Reactions inbox and response SLAs.
- Understanding that LinkedIn and Reddit are the supported social networks for listening in CntX today.
Steps
- Open Insights in the sidebar and note the four areas: Reactions, Voice of Field, Media Watch, Social Listening.
- Voice of Field: confirm your workspace email format (`company@cntx.app` or `company-workspace@cntx.app`) and forward field mail there.
- Media Watch: add publication or query sources on the Watchlist tab; run scans from a single source or all active sources.
- Social Listening: add LinkedIn company pages, profiles, or keyword/post searches; add Reddit communities or keyword watches as supported.
- After scans or crawls, open Feed tabs in Media Watch and Social Listening. Expand Why this score? on rows with relevance and reaction badges.
- Open Reactions. Filter by source macro (VoF, Media Watch, Social) and status (New, in progress, done, dismissed).
- Compare: an item may appear in Social Listening feed but only reach Reactions if reaction score clears the priority threshold and passes gates (actionability, angle, deduplication).
- For items that should not become content, Dismiss in Reactions or ignore/mark in the source feed to train your triage habit.
- For winners, use row actions to Create brief, mark in progress, or open the source URL—details vary by source type.
Expected result
- You know which Insight tab owns each input channel.
- Reactions inbox holds a manageable queue of scored opportunities, not every RSS row or social post.
- Score tooltips explain relevance vs reaction dimensions (strategic fit, signal strength, source credibility, keyword-only penalties).
- Social Listening stays scoped to LinkedIn and Reddit—not Twitter, Instagram, or an all-network promise.
- Field email, media hits, and social threads can all converge on the same brief workflow when prioritized.
Tips
- Weak keyword-only matches score lower—add precise watches (competitor names, product categories) instead of overly broad terms.
- Media Watch watchlist interest is separate from automatic Reaction creation; high relevance alone does not always enqueue Reactions.
- Duplicate signals across sources are penalized—do not create briefs twice for the same news cycle without checking dedupe.
- Voice of Field emails from contributors may need association before promotion into Reactions for that contributor’s workspace scope.
- Audit findings live under Content → Audit; treat them as catalog signals that complement—but do not duplicate—the Reactions inbox.
Next step
Configure at least one Media Watch source and one LinkedIn or Reddit watch, run a scan, then review what lands in Reactions. Turn the highest-scored New item into a content brief while the window is still timely.
