Content Calendar Overview
Plan, review, and produce content from one unified calendar that merges recurring editorial planning, campaign briefs, opportunity-driven topics, and manual entries.
Overview
The Calendar is CntX’s central planning surface. Every item on the calendar is a dated content slot linked to a brief (audience, angle, format, funnel stage) and, once approved, to a content item you edit and publish.
With the unified calendar, you no longer switch between separate tools for evergreen editorial work and campaigns. Items appear in the same week, month, and briefs-table views, tagged by layer:
- Strategy — recurring editorial plan generated from a content strategy (pillars, channels, horizon).
- Campaign — time-bound briefs produced from a multi-workspace or single-workspace campaign plan.
- Opportunity — briefs created from signals (audit gaps, reactions, media watch, social listening).
- Manual — slots you add yourself when you need full control over topic and date.
You can read multiple plannings at once (for example evergreen strategy plus an active campaign child strategy) while generation and bulk actions always target one focused strategy at a time. Brief validation happens on the calendar; full draft production and editorial approval happen in the content editor.
When to use
- You want a shared, dated view of what the team will produce next.
- You need to compare or coordinate evergreen editorial slots with campaign or opportunity briefs.
- You are reviewing AI-proposed topics before anyone writes full drafts.
- Home recommends calendar generation, brief validation, or quick review.
Before you start
- Finish core Context setup (brand, products, ICPs, personas) so generated briefs are grounded.
- Have at least one content strategy with pillars, channels, and a planning horizon—or an active campaign with a generated plan.
- Confirm you are in the correct workspace; calendars are workspace-scoped. Campaign parent strategies may aggregate child workspace calendars when you select them for reading.
- Know the two status tracks you will see everywhere: brief status (planning validation) and editorial / CMS status (production and publishing)—they are independent.
Steps
- Open Calendar from the sidebar.
- Use the planning selector at the top to choose one or more strategies. Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) to add or remove plannings without losing your selection. A single click replaces the selection and sets the generation focus.
- Check the workspace badge next to the selector—you are always viewing calendars for the active workspace. Campaign parent strategies show child briefs from the current workspace only.
- Switch between Week, Month, and Briefs views. Use layer filters (Strategy, Campaign, Opportunity, Manual) to focus on one source of items.
- Scan the To do now panel for counts of briefs to validate, drafts to generate, and content to review. Open Quick review to walk through pending briefs one by one.
- Open any calendar item to read its brief summary: title, channel, persona, pillar, funnel stage, and proposed format.
- Take an editorial action on each item—edit the brief, change brief status, approve, reschedule, or remove—before moving to content generation.
- When a planning period is empty or stale, use Generate calendar on the focused strategy to propose the next editorial period. Campaign briefs arrive from campaign generation; opportunity briefs arrive from Insights workflows.
Expected result
- One calendar shows all planned content for the active workspace, regardless of whether items came from strategy generation, a campaign, a signal, or manual entry.
- Layer badges and filters make it clear why each item exists.
- Approved briefs are ready for draft generation; items without approved briefs stay in planning-only mode.
- Your team shares a single timeline from idea validation through production.
Tips
- Multi-select is for reading, not generating — You can display several plannings together, but Generate calendar, purge, and batch draft actions apply only to the generation focus strategy shown beside the selector.
- Parent vs child campaign strategies — Selecting a campaign parent aggregates child workspace calendars for viewing. Switch workspace or select the child strategy directly to edit or generate on that brand’s own plan.
- Start with Briefs view — When validating a new period, the briefs table with status and next-action columns is faster than scanning the month grid.
- Empty after selecting a strategy — The strategy may have no generated calendar yet. Run Generate calendar on the focused strategy or finish campaign plan generation first.
- Do not confuse brief approval with content approval — Approving a brief authorizes draft generation; editorial Approved status is set later in the content editor before CMS publish.
Next step
Create and Edit a Content Brief to refine individual slots, or Generate the Next Editorial Period when you need a fresh strategy-driven planning batch.
