Run a Content Audit

Crawl and analyze your existing site catalog to expose funnel gaps, pillar coverage, and keyword opportunities enriched with SEO metrics.

Overview

A content audit in CntX inventories what you already publish—typically blog and key marketing URLs crawled into the workspace—and runs analytics over that catalog. The audit classifies pages by funnel stage, pillars, personas, products, and intent, then surfaces aggregate charts and audit findings you can turn into editorial actions.

When the audit export completes, CntX enriches discovered keywords with SEO metrics (monthly search volume, keyword difficulty, competition) via the DataForSEO-style keyword metrics pipeline—scoped to your workspace market and language. Metrics appear in Top keywords tables and inform finding priority bands; partial coverage is normal when quota or cache limits apply.

Audits run from Content → Audit (or triggered during Smart Auto-Setup). They complement—but do not replace—Google Search Console, which measures live query performance after publish.

When to use

Run an audit when you:

  • Onboard a workspace and need a baseline of existing content vs strategy pillars.
  • Suspect funnel imbalance (too much top-funnel awareness, little decision content).
  • Want keyword and topic gaps before generating the next calendar period.
  • Need exportable reports (Markdown, Excel, ZIP) for stakeholders.
  • Are preparing to connect GSC so future findings include search-aware recommendations.

Re-run after major site migrations, rebrand, or every few quarters to refresh the catalog snapshot.

Before you start

  • Company context configured: products, ICPs, personas, pillars, and competitors improve classification quality.
  • Crawled content in the workspace—the audit analyzes imported pages, not hypothetical briefs. Complete site crawl or context discovery first if the catalog is empty.
  • Correct workspace language and market settings—they drive keyword metrics locale (location and language codes for SEO data).
  • Optional: Google Search Console connected for richer post-audit recommendations (findings may prompt you if GSC is missing).
  • Time budget: audit execution is asynchronous; large sites take longer to crawl, classify, and export.

Steps

  1. Open Content → Audit in the workspace sidebar.
  2. If prompted, confirm content is available from a prior crawl or import. Launch crawl from Home or Context if the catalog is empty.
  3. Click Launch audit (or Launch an audit in the modal).
  4. Enter the website URL to audit (must match crawled domain scope).
  5. Choose language—Auto detect or a specific locale aligned with your market.
  6. Submit and monitor progress. Enable Auto-refresh to watch status until Succeeded or Partial succeeded.
  7. When complete, review summary tiles: articles analyzed, funnel entropy, pillar and persona distribution, search intent mix.
  8. Open Audit findings for prioritized patterns (gaps, quick wins, SEO opportunities).
  9. Explore Top keywords sample tables for volume, difficulty, and competition columns—note partial metrics footnotes when not every keyword is enriched.
  10. Optional: Download report (MD), Excel (XLS), or ZIP export for offline sharing.
  11. Optional: connect Google Search Console if findings suggest it, then refresh or plan a follow-up audit cycle.

Expected result

  • A completed audit run with timestamp, article count, and funnel/pillar/intent breakdowns.
  • Audit findings list with priority bands, severity, and filters (e.g. to review, open, acknowledged).
  • Top keywords chart and table with SEO metrics where DataForSEO enrichment succeeded.
  • Thin or low-word-count pages flagged separately so they do not skew quality conclusions.
  • Exported files stored for the run when you download reports.
  • Home and strategy workflows can reference audit readiness for setup completeness.

Tips

  • Fix empty catalog before auditing—audits analyze imported URLs, not live sitemap guesses alone.
  • Partial succeeded still yields usable analytics; check which assets failed and re-crawl if needed.
  • Keyword metrics depend on workspace country/language—re-save DataForSEO market settings if volumes look wrong for your region.
  • Funnel entropy near 0% means content clusters in one stage; 100% means even spread—neither is automatically good; interpret against strategy.
  • Connect GSC before or after audit; findings explicitly nudge you when GSC would unlock deeper SEO recommendations.
  • Large sites: use export downloads for executive summaries; use in-app findings for day-to-day editorial triage.

Next step

Open Audit findings and triage the highest-priority items. Cross-check Top keywords for demand you are not covering, then promote the best opportunities into briefs or calendar slots—or into the Reactions workflow when they overlap with listening signals.
