Complete Context Discovery

Walk through the Context Discovery wizard to capture the strategic inputs CntX needs before calendars, briefs, and campaigns can be generated with confidence.

Overview

Context Discovery is CntX’s guided onboarding wizard. It transforms a blank workspace into a structured knowledge base: company description, positioning, products, ideal customer profiles (ICPs), personas, competitors, and brand platform elements. Those inputs feed every downstream AI action—strategy suggestions, calendar topics, brief angles, and content generation—so the quality of discovery directly affects the quality of planning output.

The wizard appears from Home when readiness checks detect missing core context. You can also launch or resume it from recommended setup cards. Discovery combines manual confirmation with automated extraction: when you supply a website URL, CntX may crawl public pages to pre-fill description and brand cues. You always review and edit before saving—automated text is a draft, not ground truth.

Context Discovery is not a one-time prison. After the wizard completes, refine any section from the Context area in the sidebar (company, products, audiences, competitors, brand). Discovery simply ensures you cross the minimum bar quickly instead of configuring ten screens without guidance.

When to use

Run Context Discovery when you:

  • Just created your account and Home recommends setup.
  • Onboard a new workspace or brand that lacks products and audiences.
  • See empty or generic briefs after calendar generation—often a signal that context is thin.
  • Prepare a campaign target workspace that must bootstrap child strategy from local context.

Skip or pause if you only need to tweak one field (edit directly in Context). Re-run discovery-style review after major repositioning, acquisitions, or product launches.

Before you start

  • Finish Create Your CntX Account and Company so a workspace exists.
  • Add a correct website URL on the company or workspace profile; crawl-assisted steps need a reachable domain.
  • Gather source material if available: pitch decks, messaging docs, product sheets, brand PDFs. You can attach documents during or after discovery.
  • Allocate 20–40 minutes for a thorough first pass; you can save progress and return.
  • Know your primary markets and languages—personas and tone may differ per workspace.

Steps

  1. From Home, click Context Discovery, Complete setup, or the equivalent readiness card. If you dismissed it earlier, open Context and follow the banner to resume the wizard.
  2. Company description and positioning — Review auto-generated copy from your site if present. Edit for accuracy: what you sell, who you serve, differentiation, and tone constraints. Prefer durable facts over campaign taglines.
  3. Products and offers — Confirm product names, categories, and priority order. Add missing offerings; mark flagship vs secondary lines so planners weight topics correctly.
  4. Audiences — Create or validate ICPs (firmographic or segment definitions) and personas (role-based views with pains and goals). Link personas to products where the UI allows—generation uses those ties for angle selection.
  5. Competitors — Add direct competitors by name and domain when prompted. Competitive context improves audit and differentiation suggestions later.
  6. Brand platform — Confirm voice, values, messaging pillars, or visual guidelines if the step appears. Upload or reference brand assets when the wizard offers document attachment.
  7. Review readiness — The checklist on Home or wizard footer should mark core sections complete. Resolve any blocking validation (e.g., zero products, zero personas).
  8. Save and exit — Land back on Home with updated readiness. Optional: open each Context subsection to deepen detail beyond wizard minimums.

Expected result

Your workspace exposes a coherent context graph readable by planning engines:

  • Company narrative aligned with how you actually go to market.
  • At least one product and one audience (ICP or persona) with enough detail to brief against.
  • Competitor and brand baselines where applicable.

Home readiness moves past “context incomplete.” You can create a content strategy without validation errors about missing products or audiences. The first calendar generation should propose topics tied to stated goals and personas—not placeholder lorem themes.

Tips

  • Facts over slogans — “Leading provider of synergy” teaches the AI nothing; concrete outcomes, industries, and use cases do.
  • Attach source documents — Long PDFs or Notion exports ground terminology; use Attach Source Documents to Your Context after the wizard if you skipped uploads.
  • Persona depth beats persona count — Three well-described personas outperform ten empty shells.
  • Crawl delays — Large sites may queue crawl jobs; refresh Context after jobs complete if description fields still look empty.
  • Multi-workspace brands — Run discovery per workspace; campaign child strategies inherit local products and audiences, not another brand’s context.
  • Revisit after strategy misfires — If generated briefs miss the mark, fix context before regenerating the calendar period.

Next step

Create a Content Strategy with goals, pillars, and channels, then Build Your First Editorial Calendar by generating your opening planning period.
